In 2004, NASA took a big first step in fulfilling the Vision for Space Exploration. Sprit and Opportunity , the Mars Exploration Rovers, landed on the red planet in January and are still going strong a year later. They've already confirmed what some scientists had concluded: that open water once existed on Mars' surface. This finding in turn raises the possibility that life may have developed on Mars long ago. In 2005, NASA will launch the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, which will look for water below Mars' surface and scout for future landing sites. |
